Behind This Need

"Where Do You Live?"

"Half Moon Bay"

"Oh my, it's so BEAUTIFUL there!"

That exchange is what motivates us to Keep Half Moon Bay Scenic. Those values are reflected in our building code and regulations. And those regulations confirm that most people get their impression of Half Moon Bay from Highway 1, aka Cabrillo Highway, and the views from that road are scenic and significant. Unfortunately, the proposed complex of buildings at the southern welcoming entrance to town will block and obstruct views of those inland hills, up to, including, and above the existing visible ridge lines. Those beautiful rolling hill views are all legally protected visual resources, according to City code, as affirmed by the Coastal Commission.

But who are we? We're a large group of people motivated to Keep HMB Scenic by demanding that the laws to be enforced.  Not just Coastsiders, but also people from all over who love this place.

People have objected viscerally to the size of this project since it was proposed in 2016.  If it was sized appropriately to this important visual gateway to our town, it would have been approved and built years ago.  Sustained, vocal, and growing opposition to this project exists simply because it is too darn big.
